In 1905, the Frisco Railroad constructed a number of highly detailed Pratt Through Trusses.
Teaming up with King Bridge Company of Cleveland, Ohio, these new trusses were heavily built but contained ornate features more common on 1880s bridges.
Of these details, the portal bracing is the most striking. It is a beautiful cutout design.
The main span of the bridge is a large 6-panel pin connected Pratt Through Truss. It is approached by several trestle spans on the west end.
An alteration was made to the bridge in 1934, which appears to have shifted the structure onto new substructures.
The truss is identical to a nearby bridge in Wilson County, as well as another in Labette County.
Despite the 1905 build date, the structure is set onto concrete substructures, with wooden piles supporting the approaches. The substructures were built of stone prior to 1934.
Because of the detailed and intricate design, the author has ranked this bridge as being moderately significant.
Unfortunately, the approach is in severe condition. However, it is believed that the bridge will become a part of the Iron Horse Trail, a future rail-trail.
The photo above is an overview. One can access the bridge from 1450 Road, which crosses below this bridge.
